Is this program for children?
No, adults attend Parenting Children of Divorce to learn more about how to best support children.
Who should attend?
Parents, grandparents, stepparents…really, any adult who is concerned about a child who has parents who are separated or divorced. This class is designed to give adults the tools necessary to help the child or children they care about.
Should we come if we were never married?
This program can still help you and your children. From a child’s point of view, most of the challenges of divorce are the same whether parents were legally married or not.
Should I attend with my child’s other parent?
No. We have found, after years of experience, that the program is much more useful if separating/divorcing parents attend separate sessions. You will find you have more freedom to speak up or ask questions important to you if you attend separately. During registration, all possible precautions are taken to ensure that parents attend separate sessions. If parents choose to attend together, we will need to verbally confirm with each party that they want to attend together.
We aren’t divorced yet, should I still attend? Or When should I attend?
The earlier in the process you attend, the more you and your children will benefit. The most common comment we hear after participants finish the program is that they wish they had attended earlier. However, many participants have been divorced for many years but have found that they are still dealing with divorce related issues. There is no point at which it is too late.
Why should I come?
Children are affected tremendously by their parents’ separation or divorce. But there are many things that parents can do, and not do, that will help their children adjust. This time is critical for children of all ages.
Who are the presenters?
Each series is presented by an attorney and a mental health professional with experience working with families and/or children in transition.
How much does it cost?
The entire four-hour series is only $35.00 per
person.
How do I register?
You should pre-register by calling 333-6890 ext. 221 or by sending an email to info@flcgso.com. You will need to include your name, address, phone number, and the name of your child’s other parent. Once you pre-register, you will need to send in your payment of $35.00 to hold your spot. The classes fill up quickly and it is important to register and pay as soon as possible.
