"The principal challenge of stepfamily life is building an emotionally satisfying marriage."

James Bray and John Kelly

Remarriage

Marriage involves the blending of two lives. When one or both of the partners has been married before, this blending may be more complicated. Remarriages can become strong, healthy, lasting relationships. However, there are issues that affect remarriages and will need to be addressed.

Memories or old hurts from the first marriage may linger. Current relationships with the ex-spouse may be problematic. The reactions from family and friends may be tainted by their relationships with the ex-spouse.

Combining two families into one is a real challenge!  But the payoffs of persevering can be great.  And the good news is that you don't have to reinvent the wheel here.  You can draw upon the experience, wisdom and support of other people that have walked, or are now walking, the same road you are on.
