  • What is the Community Marriage Covenant?

It’s a pledge to support marriages before and after the wedding. It was developed by a group of religious leaders in Guilford County.  Working with the Family Life Council, these leaders have agreed that planning for a wedding should include preparing for marriage.   

  • By signing the community marriage covenant, what am I committing to?

You are committing to work to support marriages before and after the wedding.  While the covenant provides recommendations of activities that are helpful in supporting healthy marriages, each congregation can make their own decision about the requirements for marriage or programs that are offered. 

  • Why should I sign this covenant when we are already doing what the covenant represents?

By signing the Guilford County Community Marriage Covenant you are joining a growing list of community members who are working together to support healthy marriages.

  • What is the Guilford County Marriage Resource Center?

The Guilford County Marriage Resource Center (GCMRC) is and outgrowth of the Healthy Marriage Initiative of Guilford County and a program of the Family Life Council.  The GCMRC is focused on creating a community of support for healthy marriages, both before and after the wedding.   

  • What does the Guilford County Marriage Resource Center offer?

Activities of the GCMRC include:

      • A website containing a community calendar of marriage related events – www.gcmarriage.org
      • A resource library with books, videos, and curriculum
      • Trainings for volunteers, religious leaders, and mental health professionals on how to create and/or implement marriage support programs. 
      • Speakers Bureau
      • Coordinating the Community Marriage Covenant
      • Annual Marriage Celebration Event
      • African-American Healthy Marriage Summit
      • Administration and interpretation of the Prepare Inventory for engaged couples
      • Marriage Education and support programs for engaged and married couples
       
  • Who is the Family Life Council?

The Family Life Council, a nonprofit agency, was created in 1968 by a group of citizens in Greensboro who felt families deserved and needed more support.  Today, the Family Life Council provides many different educational programs focused on prevention and supporting the creation and maintenance of healthy family relationships.

  • Is the Family Life Council a Religious organization?

The Family Life Council is not a religious organization. However, we do have a history of working collaboratively with organizations from a variety of faith traditions supporting their work with families.
